Fire Prevention Bureau

Assistant Chief
David J. Walton
The Fire Prevention Bureau consists of the Fire & Bomb Investigation Section, Inspections Section, and the Office of Community Relations.
The Bureau is headed by Assistant Chief David J.Walton.
The daily operations are overseen by Battalion Chief Sean Devlin.
Chief Walton's Administrative Secretary is Laura Fox.
The Fire Prevention Bureau's basic responsibilities include:
Public Education
Enforcing the Fire Prevention Codes
Reviewing Plat Plans and Building Plans for new construction and performing acceptance inspections for new fire protection equipment
Providing for the investigation of suspicious large loss and incendiary fires and all fire deaths
Maintaining all NFIRS reports, fire inspection reports, and fire investigation reports for the Division
Inspections Section
The Inspections Section is headed by Captain Stew Atwood. There are five offices within this section including:
Annual Inspections Office- Permits & Records Office
- Plans Review & Witness Testing Inspections Office
- Requested Inspections Office
- Special Inspections Office

The Office of Community Relations fulfills the Division's goal of educating the public through fire safety education programs and involvement with community groups. Besides fulfilling its general mission, the Community Relations Officer also coordinates the activities of the Juvenile Fire setter Program and the Fire Fighters Against Drugs Youth Program.

The Arson Section conducts investigations into the cause of various fires including those of a suspicious, incendiary, or undetermined nature, and all fires involving loss of life or large dollar loss.
